China Calls on Dutch to Resolve Nexperia Disputes Quickly

The Chinese government has urged the Netherlands to expedite the resolution of ongoing disputes at Nexperia, a semiconductor company pivotal to the global supply chain. This call underlines the importance of maintaining stability within an industry that has been susceptible to disruptions.

According to Lin, a representative from China, the Dutch authorities need to establish an environment conducive for companies to settle their internal conflicts swiftly. This action is vital to ensuring that global semiconductor supply chains remain stable and unimpeded, as China continues to support its firms in safeguarding their legal rights.

Recent updates from the Amsterdam Enterprise Chamber indicate that the investigation into Nexperia is projected to take several months, during which prior emergency measures will remain in effect. These measures include the suspension of former CEO Zhang Xuezheng and the temporary delegation of shareholder voting rights to an administrator appointed by the Dutch court.

In its response, Nexperia expressed concerns over the court's interim measures which, according to them, are based on misleading information. The company argues that while the interim management remains in control, they are allowed to continue undermining the firm’s operations and the broader supply chain.

Nexperia's statement acknowledged the Enterprise Chamber's decision to extend its investigation to include the current interim management. The company has emphasized the need for a thorough and unbiased investigation to address the alleged illegal actions of the interim management and to restore accountability.

The firm has committed to pursuing legal avenues to fully restore its governance rights at Nexperia, asserting that this is essential for ending the current turmoil and returning to a path of health and stability in the semiconductor industry.

Jian Junbo, an expert from Fudan University, commented that the Dutch court's actions are likely to prolong uncertainties without addressing the core issues at hand.

Reports highlight that the Nexperia situation has caused significant disruptions to the supply of essential chips, particularly affecting the automotive sector. Bloomberg has noted that the legal battle has effectively removed control from Chinese owner Wingtech Technology, leading to a ripple effect across various industries.

Jian pointed out that the crux of the financial and operational chaos stems from political interference by the Dutch government, which is creating economic losses, disrupting supply chains, and worsening the global semiconductor shortage.

He stressed that a genuine resolution necessitates the immediate and complete lifting of all preemptive measures by the Dutch side, cautioning that coercive political interventions contravene World Trade Organization regulations and could destabilize the global economic framework.

This matter surfaced in October 2025 when the Dutch government invoked legislation aimed at protecting national security, resulting in a court suspension of Wingtech's ownership of Nexperia and the removal of the company's CEO.

In November, discussions took place between officials from both nations, where it was noted that the Dutch authorities suggested halting the economy minister's order concerning Nexperia. Nonetheless, this suspension has not solved the underlying issues affecting the global semiconductor market, prompting calls for further cooperation and constructive solutions from the Dutch side.
