BEIJING, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Global stock markets exhibited a blend of positive and slightly mixed performances as of Wednesday. In Asia, key indices posted modest gains, reflecting regional investor sentiment and economic indicators.

The Shanghai Composite Index opened at 3,341.85 points, edging up by 1.16 points or 0.03 percent, signaling stability amidst ongoing economic assessments. Similarly, the Shenzhen Component Index opened at 10,039.25 points with a gain of 10.14 points or 0.10 percent.

The Hang Seng Index showed a slight uptick, opened at 23,385.18 points, up by 3.19 points or 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the S&P/ASX 200 in Australia started off at 8,422.60 points, reflecting a positive trend with an increase of 15.00 points or 0.18 percent.

Japan's 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average made a notable jump, opening at 38,094.79 points, up by 370.68 points or 0.98 percent. The Straits Times Index in Singapore rose to 3,909.05 points, with an increase of 12.96 points or 0.33 percent, while the Korea Composite Stock Price Index pursued a similar trajectory, opening at 2,648.86 points, up 11.64 points or 0.44 percent.

Across the Pacific in the United States, stock indices experienced a significant rally. The S&P 500 Index closed at 5,921.54 points, gaining 118.72 points or 2.05 percent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average made a substantial advance, closing at 42,343.65 points, up by 740.58 points or 1.78 percent.

The Nasdaq Composite Index showcased the most robust performance, closing at 19,199.16 points with an impressive increase of 461.95 points or 2.47 percent, reflecting strong investor confidence in tech sector advances and economic recovery.

In Europe, market dynamics presented a slightly more tempered response. The DAX Index in Germany concluded at 24,226.49 points, rising by 198.84 points or 0.83 percent, reflecting positive market sentiment.

The FTSE 100 Index in the UK finished at 8,778.05 points, up by 60.08 points or 0.69 percent, indicating gains in major sectors. However, the Paris CAC 40 faced a minor setback, closing at 7,826.79 points, down by 1.34 points or 0.02 percent, hinting at mixed investor sentiment in the region.
