2026 Zhongguancun Forum to Focus on Tech Industrial Innovation

The highly anticipated 2026 Zhongguancun Forum (ZGC Forum) is set to take place in Beijing from March 25 to 29, focusing on the deep integration of technological innovation and industrial development. This significant event, as announced by an official from China's Ministry of Science and Technology, aims to promote global collaboration and spur innovation in the tech sector.

With over 100 events planned, the forum is expected to attract a diverse audience, including thousands of participants hailing from more than 100 countries and regions. Lin Xin, the vice minister of science and technology, highlighted these anticipated figures during a press briefing organized by the State Council Information Office.

Four main themes will characterize this year's forum. One of the principal focuses will be on fostering the growth of international science and technology innovation centers, alongside enhancing collaborative innovation and industrial synergies within the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

Additionally, the forum will prioritize a deeper integration between technological and industrial innovations, featuring specialized discussions on cutting-edge topics such as 6G technology, brain-computer interfaces, and cell and gene therapy. According to Lin, these discussions will examine both the scientific advancements and their industrial applications.

Another significant theme for this year's gathering will be the integrated development of education, science and technology, and talent. Prominent universities, research institutions, and industry leaders from both China and abroad will be invited to participate in these crucial discussions.

In alignment with China's initiatives to enhance openness, the forum will emphasize high-level international cooperation in science and technology. Various themed events will be organized to promote both bilateral and multilateral collaborative frameworks.

The 2026 Zhongguancun Forum is a collaborative effort involving several key Chinese government agencies, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, as reported by Xinhua News Agency.

Established in 2007, the forum has transformed into a global, high-level event focused on promoting innovation in science and technology. This year's theme underscores the importance of the full integration of technological and industrial innovation.

At this year's forum, participants will witness firsthand how advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) are reshaping various industries. Notably, AI interpreters will now offer services in eight languages, expanding beyond the previous offerings of only Chinese and English, as shared by Jin Wei, vice mayor of Beijing.

Moreover, attendees will enjoy innovative experiences such as a robot café, where robots will not only make coffee individually but will now work collaboratively to prepare full meals. A robot band will also entertain guests with live performances, according to Jin's press remarks.

The ZGC Forum distinguishes itself from conventional technology conferences by emphasizing the intersection of technological innovation and industrial development. This focus on practical applications and business practices is expected to energize this year's discussions, as pointed out by Ma Jihua, an experienced industry analyst.

Ma also mentioned that the forum's agenda aligns with the launch of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), facilitating in-depth dialogues on emerging industries and strategic priorities. This platform serves as a valuable resource for both large corporations and small to medium-sized enterprises to navigate trends in technology and industry, thereby fostering stability and confidence in an ever-changing environment.
