China Sees Record Highs in Domestic Travel for 2025

China's tourism industry has achieved remarkable growth in 2025, in line with the nation's strategic goals aimed at enhancing economic prosperity and stability.

During the nine-day Spring Festival holiday from February 15 to 23, the country witnessed an unprecedented 596 million domestic trips. Additionally, tourism spending during this period exceeded 800 billion yuan, equivalent to approximately 115.93 billion U.S. dollars, both figures setting exceptional new records.

Looking at the entire year of 2025, domestic travel by Chinese residents surpassed 6.5 billion trips, marking an increase of over 16 percent from the previous year. Correspondingly, total tourism expenditure reached 6.3 trillion yuan, which reflects a growth of 9.5 percent, establishing fresh benchmarks for both the volume of travel and associated spending.

The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Sun, emphasized that the ongoing development of the culture and tourism sectors will be guided by the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan for cultural and tourism development, spanning from 2026 to 2030.

This strategic initiative aims to ensure that the cultural and tourism sectors are in harmony with the broader developmental frameworks of the country.

Moreover, Sun highlighted that the implementation of this plan will enhance the sectors' contributions to enriching the populace intellectually and emotionally, while also fostering significant economic and social development.
