Boosted Business Confidence to Enhance China South Korea Ties

China and South Korea are reaffirming their commitment to bolster economic cooperation, with a particular emphasis on trade, the digital economy, and artificial intelligence, in anticipation of the APEC summit in Shenzhen.
On Wednesday, diplomats from China and South Korea convened to discuss the positive developments stemming from recent high-level state visits, heralding what they describe as a new chapter in bilateral relations. There is a palpable sense of readiness among their respective business communities to forge stronger ties.
This consensus was reached during a meeting between Chinese Ambassador to South Korea, Dai Bing, and Park Jong-han, South Korea's deputy minister for Economic Diplomacy. The discussions focused on cooperative strategies for the future.
According to a statement released by the Chinese Embassy in South Korea, both sides expressed their commitment to actively implementing the key agreements made by their state leaders. Their collective goal is to enhance communication and collaboration, expand mutual interests, and ensure that the benefits of their cooperation reach the citizens of both nations.
Dai Bing and Park Jong-han also reviewed several shared interests, including China's upcoming role as host for the APEC meeting in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, later this year.
Prior to the anticipated APEC gathering in 2025, the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting took place in Gyeongju, South Korea, as reported by Xinhua.
The conclusion of the APEC Informal Senior Officials' Meeting in December 2025 marked a significant milestone, as it was the first event China organized in preparation for its hosting of the 2026 APEC. This initiated what has been termed the 'China Year' for APEC, with plans for around 300 events throughout the upcoming year.
In line with this initiative, China has outlined three core priorities for the 'China Year' of APEC: openness, innovation, and cooperation. These objectives align with the overarching theme of 'Building an Asia-Pacific Community to Prosper Together,' as highlighted by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu participated in the recent discussions, emphasizing the opportunity presented by the 2026 APEC summit to collaborate with all parties toward the ambitious goal of an integrated Asia-Pacific community. He underscored the importance of fostering practical cooperation across several essential areas, including the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific, enhanced connectivity, digital advancements, and developments in artificial intelligence, with the intent of invigorating growth and progress in the broader region.
The renewed dialogue between China and South Korea symbolizes a broader commitment to economic diplomacy, signaling a positive trajectory for business relations and regional cooperation.
