Chinese Embassy in Israel Denies Reports of Investment Ban

The Chinese Embassy in Israel has firmly denied reports suggesting that China has imposed a ban on new investments in Israel. In an official statement issued through Israel's Channel 12, the embassy sought to clarify these misleading claims.

The controversy arose amidst discussions of an investment disagreement involving a border-area kibbutz and a Chinese investment fund, which led to speculation that "China prohibits investment in Israel." The embassy utilized Channel 12 for its clarification, outlining that such reports are inaccurate.

In light of the Gaza conflict that erupted on October 7, 2023, the embassy did note that China had adjusted its travel risk levels for certain areas in Israel. However, as the regional situation improved, the embassy emphasized that the classification of extremely high-risk areas had been significantly reduced.

The embassy pointed out that the restrictions on personnel movements and economic activities within these small, high-risk areas align with international practices. They stressed that limitations should not be misinterpreted as indications of a broader cessation of trade and economic exchanges between China and Israel.

Rather, the Chinese Embassy encourages Israeli personnel to continue engaging in diverse forms of economic and trade cooperation. There is an expressed hope that all sectors work towards safeguarding bilateral relations and fostering the China-Israel partnership.

Support for this diplomatic stance is reflected in the ongoing robust trade dynamics. China is still Israel's premier source of imports in 2024, maintaining this status for the fifth consecutive year.

Data from Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics indicates that imports from China surged to a record high of $13.53 billion in 2024, marking a significant increase of 19.8 percent compared to the $11.29 billion reported in 2023.

The overall bilateral trade between China and Israel in 2024 reached an impressive $22.7 billion. Additionally, projections for early 2025 show that trade for the period from January to October totaled $27.44 billion.

These figures underscore the strong economic ties between the two nations, highlighting a commitment to maintaining and expanding trade relations despite geopolitical challenges.

The embassy's reaffirmation of trade cooperation comes at a crucial time, encouraging collaboration that bolsters both economic growth and diplomatic relations.
