CCCEU Calls for Fair Evaluation of Chinese EV Proposals in EU

The China Chamber of Commerce to the EU (CCCEU) has called for fair treatment for Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers as the European Union considers price proposals amid increasing tensions between China and the EU. The chamber insists that transparent and unbiased evaluation processes are crucial for assessing price undertaking proposals from EV companies.

This appeal comes in light of the European Commission's acceptance of Volkswagen (Anhui)'s price undertaking for exporting battery electric vehicles to the EU. The arrangement allows Volkswagen's model to avoid countervailing duties, contingent upon meeting certain minimum import price conditions.

Additionally, the EC has granted Volkswagen's Cupra brand an exemption for its China-manufactured Tavascan SUV coupe from import tariffs. This agreement, which required several months of discussions, is linked to a minimum price and quota arrangement, as reported by Reuters.

In the realm of price undertakings, the CCCEU's Automotive Working Group has been involved in technical discussions with EU representatives regarding the guidelines for EV price undertaking offers. The chamber has indicated that several Chinese EV manufacturers are weighing the possibility of submitting their own proposals based on their specific business circumstances.
