China Denies US 301 Investigation Claims Vows to Protect Interests

China has firmly rejected the conclusions drawn by the United States regarding the Section 301 investigation into its semiconductor sector. This response comes in light of the U.S. Trade Representative's announcement of additional tariffs on select Chinese semiconductor products. He Yongqian, a spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce, stated that the current tariff rate remains at zero, with plans for an increase after 18 months, set for June 2027.

In response to the U.S. findings, He Yongqian underscored that China has taken the situation seriously and made strong representations to the United States through established economic and trade communication channels. He affirmed China's disagreement with what he termed the so-called conclusions of the U.S. investigation and expressed China's firm opposition to the proposed Section 301 tariffs.

He further articulated that these unilateral tariffs contravene World Trade Organization regulations and disrupt the established international trade order. He claimed that such actions negatively impact global industrial and supply chains, also harming the interests of American companies and consumers in the process.

He described the U.S. policy as one that inflicts damage on others while offering no benefits to the U.S. itself. He urged the U.S. to promptly amend its misaligned strategies and withdraw the related measures that could potentially escalate trade tensions.

China has expressed its willingness to engage in discussions and consultations with the U.S. to address any concerns. He emphasized that these dialogues should be based on principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and a commitment to win-win cooperation.

Finally, the spokesperson noted that should the U.S. persist in undermining China's rights and interests, China would resolutely implement necessary measures to safeguard its own rights and interests. This statement reflects China's broader stance of defending its economic position amidst increasing global trade complexities.
