Alashankou Port in Xinjiang Sees 3,000+ China-Europe Freight Trains from January to May

Alashankou stands out as a vital nexus facilitating trade between China and both Central Asia and Europe. Currently, the port supports 123 operational China-Europe freight train routes, serving a network that spans 21 nations, including significant economies like Germany and Poland. This connectivity underscores the strategic importance of Alashankou in global trade networks.

The freight trains passing through Alashankou transport a diverse array of over 200 categories of goods. This includes not just new energy vehicles and mechanical parts, but also electronics and daily consumer goods, reflecting the growing demand for a wide range of products in international markets.

"We operate a 24/7 'green channel' to facilitate the seamless operation of China-Europe freight trains," shared Yang Peng, an employee at the Alashankou railway station. This commitment to continuous operation highlights the emphasis placed on efficiency and speed in freight transport, critical elements for businesses relying on timely logistics.

"So far this year, we've seen an average of over 21 freight train trips per day, with a peak reaching 30 trips in a single day," Yang added. This consistency in operations illustrates how the Alashankou port is adapting to increased demand for freight transport, ensuring that trade continues to flow smoothly despite potential disruptions.

In a broader context, Xinjiang's railway authorities have been proactive in bolstering port logistics capacity in recent years. Currently, the region manages more than half of China's overall China-Europe freight train volume, a testament to its strategic role in facilitating international trade.

The traffic through the Horgos and Alashankou ports has demonstrated steady growth as well. In just 2024, these ports processed a remarkable 16,400 trips, marking a 14 percent increase year-on-year. Such growth signals an optimistic outlook for the future of trade through this crucial gateway.
