On May 25, China's self-developed C919 jetliner officially commenced its inaugural commercial flight, successfully connecting Shanghai and Xiamen. This pivotal event marks a significant milestone for China's aviation industry, as the C919, a long-awaited addition to the global commercial aircraft market, advances towards regular operational status.

The first flight, operated by China Eastern Airlines, carried 148 passengers. It took off from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and landed at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport, where it was celebrated with a traditional water salute—a customary gesture marking the arrival of a new service.

This direct route will now operate daily, providing travelers with enhanced connectivity between Shanghai and Xiamen. Flight MU5247 is scheduled to depart from Hongqiao at 7:50 AM, arriving in Xiamen at 9:55 AM. The returning flight, MU5248, will leave Xiamen at 10:55 AM and return to Hongqiao at 12:55 PM.

China Eastern Airlines stands out as the largest operator of the C919 aircraft, boasting a diverse network with a wide array of direct flight destinations. The introduction of this jetliner into regular service is a testament to China Eastern’s commitment to expanding its operational capabilities and enhancing passenger travel options.

With the launch of the Xiamen route, the C919 fleet operated by China Eastern now services a total of 12 cities across China. These include major metropolitan areas such as Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou, alongside other key cities like Xi'an, Chengdu, and Hong Kong.
