Global Stock Market Indices Update: Key Trends and Insights

BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Global stock markets displayed a mixed performance on Thursday, with various indices across key regions reflecting divergent trends.

In Asia, the Shanghai Composite Index began the day at 3,397.97 points, registering a decline of 4.35 points or 0.13 percent. The Shenzhen Component Index followed suit, opening at 10,208.30 points, down by 37.72 points or 0.37 percent.

The Hang Seng Index experienced a similar downward trajectory, starting at 24,223.12 points, declining 143.82 points or 0.59 percent. In contrast, the S&P/ASX 200 index in Australia opened at 8,616.50 points, marking a gain of 24.40 points or 0.28 percent.

The Nikkei Stock Average in Japan reflected slight losses, opening at 38,324.93 points, down 96.26 points or 0.25 percent. Meanwhile, the Straits Times Index in Singapore opened at 3,916.75 points, down 2.30 points or 0.06 percent.

Interestingly, the Korea Composite Stock Price Index managed to secure modest gains, starting at 2,909.99 points, which is an increase of 2.95 points or 0.10 percent.

Transitioning to the United States markets, the S&P 500 Index closed the previous day at 6,022.24 points, declining by 16.57 points or 0.27 percent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended marginally lower at 42,865.77 points, down by just 1.10 points or 0.00 percent.

On the technology front, the Nasdaq Composite Index faced a more significant drop, closing at 19,615.88 points, which reflects a decline of 99.11 points or 0.50 percent.

In Europe, the trading session ended with mixed results. The DAX Index closed at 23,948.90 points, down 38.66 points or 0.16 percent. Conversely, the FTSE 100 Index managed a slight uptick, closing at 8,864.35 points, up by 11.27 points or 0.13 percent.

However, the Paris CAC 40 faced losses, finishing the day at 7,775.90 points, down 28.43 points or 0.36 percent.
