China Greenlights Rare Earth Export Applications, Says Ministry

BEIJING, June 7 (Xinhua) -- In a critical decision reflecting the increasing global appetite for rare earth elements, China has approved a number of export license applications for items related to this sector. This move is largely motivated by the surging demand in industries such as robotics and new energy vehicles, which rely heavily on medium and heavy rare earth elements.
The dual-use nature of rare earth-related items, applicable to both military and civilian applications, has prompted the Chinese government to impose certain export controls. A spokesperson from the Ministry of Commerce emphasized that such measures are consistent with international norms, underscoring the global trend of managing sensitive technology exports.
The spokesperson further articulated that these export controls are fundamentally aimed at enhancing national security and protecting China’s interests. Additionally, this approach aligns with China's obligations regarding non-proliferation, illustrating the country's dedication to fostering global peace and ensuring regional stability.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Commerce indicated an ongoing commitment to rigorously review applications that adhere to compliance standards. This reflects an intention not only to regulate but also to encourage responsible trade practices in line with international standards.
To support this compliance-oriented trade environment, the Chinese government is poised to enhance communication and dialogue with other countries regarding export controls. This initiative aims to foster better cooperation and understanding on trade issues related to rare earths, ensuring that both domestic and international interests are effectively met.
