URUMQI, May 28 (Xinhua) -- The Alashankou Port, located in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, has emerged as a pivotal conduit for global trade. As of Monday, the port has successfully facilitated over 3,000 China-Europe (Central Asia) freight train trips this year alone. This impressive figure underscores the port's role in enhancing the stability and efficiency of global industrial and supply chains, as reported by railway authorities.

Alashankou Port stands as a crucial hub that forges connections between China and both Central Asia and Europe. Presently, it supports 123 freight train routes that span across 21 countries, including major economies such as Germany and Poland. This extensive network highlights the port's strategic importance in international logistics.

The range of goods transported by these trains is diverse and significant, encompassing over 200 categories. The cargo includes new energy vehicles, mechanical parts, electronics, and daily consumer goods, reflecting the growing complexity and volume of trade conducted via this corridor.

"We operate a 24/7 'green channel' to ensure the smooth operation of China-Europe freight trains," stated Yang Peng, a staff member at the Alashankou railway station. This commitment to maintaining continuous operations is crucial for meeting the demands of global commerce.

According to Yang, the station has managed an average of over 21 China-Europe freight train trips each day this year, with an impressive peak of 30 trips reported in a single day. Such metrics indicate a robust and increasing demand for this trade route.

In recent years, the railway authorities in Xinjiang have undertaken significant efforts to bolster port logistics capacity. Consequently, the region now handles over 50 percent of China's total volume of China-Europe freight train trips, showcasing its integral role in the broader logistics landscape.

Looking ahead, the growth is expected to continue. In 2024, both the Horgos and Alashankou ports are projected to process 16,400 China-Europe freight train trips, marking a notable 14 percent increase year on year. This upward trajectory reinforces the region's status as a vital gateway for international trade.
